However, the call of political service beckoned, leading him to resign from the IPS in 1984 and join the Indian National Congress.

In the 2018 Mizoram Legislative Assembly election, despite not being a recognized party, ZPM emerged as the second-largest party. Lalduhoma leadership style and vision began garnering attention.Lalduhoma, with his distinct approach to politics, was officially declared the Chief Ministerial candidate for ZPM. His strategies resonated with the people, evident in his victory from the constituencies of Aizawl West I and Serchhip.
